Glass

The difference between Laminated and Tempered glass

Toughened Glass

Toughened glass is also known as tempered glass or safety glass. It is manufactured in such a way that it shatters into small pieces with no sharp edges. Toughened glass is required by law to be used in the following areas.

  • All windows from the finished internal floor up to a height of 1,500mm
  • All doors no matter whether partly or fully glazed
  • Any door side panels, flag windows or any type of window within 300mm of a door
  • All windows where the window is within 800mm of the finished internal floor level

Laminated Glass

Laminated glass is technically the same as toughened glass but has a plastic sheet that sits in between the middle of the glass. This layer in the middle of the glass holds the glass together making it much harder to break into pieces. The main benefit for the home owner is that laminated glass is it makes it more difficult for unwanted visitors to gain entry. A good example of laminated glass is car windscreens.

Below are some examples where laminated glass would be used:

  • French and Patio doors
  • Shop fronts
  • Shopping centres

Astragal Bars

Astragal bars are planted on to the window creating a raised surface internally and externally. Each bar separates a pane of glass, giving a traditional look and period features. All the astragal bars are applied to one single piece of glazing but give the effect of multiple panes of glass. The bars can be designed to match existing windows with astragal bars and/or to give your property a traditional feel.

Georgian Bar Windows

Our uPVC Georgian Bar windows give a more traditional look to your home which can be further enhanced by adding a woodgrain finish. Alternativley plain white frames are also available. The windows come in 4 colours and can be matched with the uPVC frames. The decorative bars are fitted inside the glazing, keeping maintenance and cleaning to the bare minimum.

Our Leaded Windows can be manufactured to match your existing windows, or we can design a leaded style to meet your requirements. Whether you desire square lead, diamond lead, Queen Anne or a design and colour of your choice we can supply and what you need.
